Painting is an expression of the consciousness of the artist. My definition of Art is "the expression of perception, filtered through consciousness." That sounds pretentious, but I can't think of a more succinct or down to earth way of saying it. My interest in painting is to express a greater and greater degree of consciousness in my work.

I believe that by quietly looking at a painting or other work of Art, be it sculpture, dance, music or other, the observer can access the state of mind of the artist who created it. If the consciousness of the observer resonates favorably with that of the artist, the experience of observation will be pleasant and will give some degree of increased happiness. I believe the purpose of creation is the expansion of happiness. Painting is my small contribution to the universal movement towards joy.
