In the years since 1992 when I began studying and producing art, I have learned a few important things. Although it is beneficial that the artist be knowledgeable about techniques and tools, it is vital that the artist has something to say. And this something needs to be an authentic expression of feelings, impressions, moods, serious statements and playful fantasies. Making art is much more than putting brush to paper. It's an opportunity to offer insight, see things in a new way, make order from chaos, heal hurt, celebrate life, have fun and experience the achievement of getting something deep inside your heart and mind out there for others to see. A risk, of course, but one well worth taking.

I've had the privilege of being a teacher for a good portion of my life. Much of what I have learned I've learned from the courageous, sensitive, innovative and enthusiastic people who are my art students. Together we have celebrated, had fun, agonized and produced art. What a joy! I invite you to appreciate, enjoy and learn from the efforts of those of us who produce art. Because then, the process is complete: artist and audience have learned and celebrated together.

Wired Assemblage - A series of nine 2 sided collages made on mat board and inserted into the bristles of a vintage (and rather rusty) wire brush mounted on pieces of old wood. Approx. 14" x 7" x 3" - $275

Collage and assemblage are my mediums of choice. That means that I get to take little bits and pieces of papers and other materials and organize them out of their chaos into whole compositions. These are humble materials which ordinarily might get overlooked or discarded, but in the hands of an insightful and enthusiastic artist they are repurposed and reborn.
